Memorial Day

Residents invited to attend Memorial Day Ceremony, Monday, May 29

The Village of Lombard is inviting residents, Veterans of the Armed Services, and local scouts to attend this year’s annual Memorial Day program, Monday, May 29 at 12 p.m., at the Sunken Garden at Common Park, located just east of the intersection Grace St. and Maple St. in Lombard.

Members of the Lombard Veterans of Foreign Wars Lilac Post #5815, the Lombard American Legion Memorial Post #391, Lombard Historical Society, local scouts, students of Glenbard East High School, and local residents will be participating in the program.

The featured speaker of the day will be Tom Brown, who is part of Cantigny First Division Voices of Valor Speakers Bureau. Brown served the Army in Vietnam in 1967, was promoted to Sgt., and received the Army Commendation Medal for Valor, Vietnam Service Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Combat Infantry Badge and a Purple Heart. There will be a wreath laying ceremony at the Lombard Memorial Marker, which contains the names of Lombard residents who served or were killed in the Civil War, the Spanish American War, World War I, World War II and Vietnam War. No Lombard residents are recorded as being killed in the Korean War.

Due to limited parking and seating, attendees are asked to walk to the program, if they are able, and to bring a lawn chair if possible.

In the event of severe weather, the Village’s Memorial Day Program will be held indoors in the Community Room at Lombard’s Village Hall, 255 E. Wilson Ave, and updates will be posted at
