Lombard will be rehabilitating 30 manholes at various locations throughout the Village beginning the week of July 24, with an estimated completion of late October, pending weather conditions.
The project includes the rehabilitation of sanitary manholes that are deteriorating structurally, due to subjective hydrogen sulfide gases (H2S), as well as leaks that result in inflow and infiltration issues. These issues involve clear ground water leaking/seeping into the sewer system, which increases the amount of sewer water that will require treatment at Glenbard Wastewater Authority. Treating clear water is not required, so this additional water into the system results in an increased treatment cost.
Grouting the structure serves to eliminate inflow and infiltration. The project will cause short term lane reductions and some parking spots may be utilized by the contractor during work hours. Residents and business owners within construction areas are highly encouraged to sign-up for the Manhole Rehabilitation e-newsletter at www.villageoflombard.org/notifyme. Village staff will provide a more specific schedule as the contractor progresses.
There are rare occasions where the location of a manhole impacts a residence or business. In this case, a notification will be mailed to the resident/business to inform them that a structure in the vicinity of their property is part of the project and will be repaired sometime over the next 60 days.
