The Lombard Police Department reminds Thanksgiving travelers to buckle up and drive sober

With Thanksgiving right around the corner, travelers will hit Illinois roads to visit and celebrate with family and friends. Lombard Police are reminding all travelers to buckle up, whether they are heading across the state or just across town, to ensure a safe arrival and a happy holiday.

November 13-26 is the Illinois Click It or Ticket campaign. Buckle up, drive sober, and encourage your loved ones to do the same. Wearing your seat belt is your best defense against an impaired, distracted or reckless driver. For more information about the “Click It or Ticket” or “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” campaigns, visit www.idot.illinois.gov and www.villageoflombard.org/drivingsafety.

Fire and Safety Reminders from the Lombard Fire Department

Thanksgiving is a busy time of year for baking and cooking, and it is important to follow safety tips to avoid burns or fire including:

  • Stay in the kitchen and keep an eye on your food when cooking on a stovetop
  • Do not leave your home when ovens or stoves are in use
  • Keep children away from the hot stove and from hot food and liquids. Steam or splashing can cause serious burns
  • Keep knives, matches, and lighters out of reach of children
  • Never leave children alone in a room with a lit candle
  • Ensure your smoke alarms are in working order.

Fire Safety questions may be directed to (630)620-5738.
