The Investigation Unit of the Lombard Police Department is managed by Lieutenant Joe Grage and Sergeant Benny Ranallo. The unit is staffed by eleven full-time investigators and a secretary. All of the investigators are juvenile officers and two are gang specialists.
There are different ways in which the Investigation Unit becomes involved in a case. After a uniformed officer receives a call, the report is written and the case is forwarded to the unit.
Some of the criteria used to determine which cases merit follow-up investigation include suspect information, witness statements, vehicle information, physical evidence, method of operation and crime patterns.
