National Blood Donor Month


National Blood Donor Month, proclaimed at the January 3, 2013 Lombard Board of Trustees meeting.

WHEREAS, in our community there is a constant need for blood; and

WHEREAS, there is a need for additional healthy, regular volunteer donors to join the ranks of those who already give of themselves so generously because donating blood is safe, simple, saves lives and there are no substitutes or replacements for blood; and

WHEREAS, the President of the United States has declared January to be “National Volunteer Blood Donor Month”; and

WHEREAS, the Village of Lombard is a member of Heartland’s Four Seasons Club by hosting Blood Drives in Winter, Spring, Summer and Fall each year; and

WHEREAS, the Village of Lombard in conjunction with Heartland Blood Centers Blood Drive will host drives on January 16th, April 10th, July 10th and September 11th from 9:30 am to 1:00 pm at the Yorktown Shopping Center and from 1:30 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at the Village Hall; and

WHEREAS, we are urging you to make an appointment to donate blood by calling the Village Hall at 630-620-5712; and

WHEREAS, the Village’s goal for the January Blood Drive is 213 pints of blood to kick-off the New Year which will help over six-hundred people;

WHEREAS, in appreciation, each donor at the January Drive will receive a $10.00 Target gift card and a coupon from Culver’s for a free pint of frozen custard for the “Give A Pint, Get A Pint” program;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Peter Breen, Acting President of the Village of Lombard, do hereby proclaim the month of January 2013 as VOLUNTEER BLOOD DONOR MONTH in the Village and ASK all residents to pay tribute to those among us who donate for others in need. I further urge everyone in good health to donate regularly and encourage all civic and service organizations and businesses, if they have not already done so, to form blood donor groups to provide the “gift of life”.
