Gareld L. Bird


Honoring Gareld L. Bird, Proclaimed at the February 7, 2013 Lombard Board of Trustees meeting.

WHEREAS, Gary Bird and his wife Victoria were residents of the Village of Lombard
for over forty years and raised their children Richard and Barbara here in
the Village of Lombard; and

WHEREAS, Gary Bird was a veteran of the U.S. Army Air Corps having served during
World War II in the Pacific, Air Offensive Japan with the 41st Photo Recon
Squadron and recently embarked on the Honor Flight Chicago and
traveled to Washington, D.C. to visit the Veteran’s Memorial; and

WHEREAS, Gary Bird was an active member of the community and served on the
Village Board as Trustee from 1991 to 1995 as well as serving on various
Village boards, commissions and committees; and

WHEREAS, Gary Bird was also active in the Historical Society, the Rotary, the
Chamber of Commerce, the Lombard Jaycees and the YMCA; and

WHEREAS, Gary Bird willingly gave of his time to the St. Vincent de Paul Society
helping those in need, and was a long-time member and usher at Sacred
Heart Church; and

WHEREAS, Gary Bird was a past Jaycees Man of the Year and was the 1996 Lilac
Parade Grand Marshal;

WHEREAS, Gary Bird was a loving husband, devoted father, cherished grandfather,
a leader, loyal confidante and valued friend; and

NOW, THEREFORE, I, William Ware, Acting President of the Village of Lombard, do
hereby urge all residents to remember Gerald L. Bird and the many
contributions he has made to our community.
