Dr. Reverend Robert "Rob" E. Hatfield, Proclaimed at the February 7, 2013 Lombard Board of Trustees meeting.
WHEREAS, Dr. Reverend Robert “Rob” E. Hatfield was the Senior Minister of the First Church of Lombard, UCC since 1989, and he and his wife Peggy made Lombard their home along with their two children, Katelyn and Michael; and
WHEREAS, Reverend Hatfield gave of himself and served not only the First Church of Lombard, but the entire community by giving his time and expertise to the Board of Directors of Good Samaritan Hospital, the Teen Parent Connection, the Community Renewal Society of Chicago, and Elmhurst Hospital, to name just a few; and
WHEREAS, Reverend Hatfield was a fearless and faithful leader to the staff at First Church of Lombard empowering and supporting them to do the work they are called to do; and
WHEREAS, Reverend Hatfield partnered with PADS to bring home to the homeless; encouraged the youth leaders to not only help create a better world, but create a community within the group; and addressed the needs of families and children, especially babies with The Outreach House; and
WHEREAS, Reverend Hatfield challenged his congregation weekly to live their lives faithfully; and
WHEREAS, Reverend Hatfield was a history guru and lived his life with the words of Winston Churchill, “We make a living by what we get. We make a life by what we give.”; and
WHEREAS, Reverend Hatfield will be remembered for all that he gave to the First Church of Lombard congregation, as well as the Village of Lombard and all who he encountered on his life’s path;
NOW THEREFORE, I, William Ware, Acting President of the Village of Lombard, do call upon the residents of the Village of Lombard to recognize the many accomplishments that Reverend Hatfield made to our community as we mourn his passing.
