Lilac Time


Lilac Time In Lombard, Proclaimed at the May 2, 2013 Lombard Board of Trustees meeting.

WHEREAS, May 4 through May 19, 2013 has been established as the time for the Lilac Festival activities in Lombard; and

WHEREAS, the Lombard Park District is looking forward to another outstanding festival this year, one which does justice to the rich horticultural tradition of the Village of Lombard and which entertains and delights both residents and visitors alike; and

WHEREAS, following the death of Colonel Plum in 1927, his estate was bequeathed to the Village as a park and his home given to be used as a free public library and reading rooms now known as Lilacia Park and the Helen Plum Memorial Library; and

WHEREAS, Lilacia Park is home to 1,200 lilacs and 25,000 blooms of tulips and other flowers; and

WHEREAS, in March 2013, the Board of Directors of the International Lilac Society voted to proclaim the month of May International Lilac Month and urges everyone to visit botanical gardens, arboreta, parks and private gardens and enjoy the beauty and perfume of lilacs; and

WHEREAS, the Village of Lombard is proud to be the home of the Lilac Festival this year and every year; and

WHEREAS, the Lilac Princesses represent the Village during Lilac Time and the year which follows, and the Lilac Queen and her Court are a very important part of the entire Lilac Festival and we are proud of Lilac Princesses Claire Castelli, Megan Cotterill, Taylor Godbey, Laura LoVetere, Jennifer Ruhl; and

WHEREAS, this year marks the celebration of the 59th Lilac Parade and the 83rd Lilac Festival in Lombard; and

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Keith T. Giagnorio, President of the Village of Lombard, do hereby proclaim May 4 through May 19, 2013 as LILAC TIME IN LOMBARD and urge residents to take part in this year’s Lilac Time celebration and activities.
