The north and south ramp entrances to the new Metra Underpass tunnel in Downtown Lombard, are scheduled to open Tuesday, June 30.
Once the newly completed ramps are open to pedestrian traffic, the north and south platforms and staircases leading to the platforms will be opened, and Union Pacific will close the temporary stairs on the north side of the platform. Four handicapped parking stalls on the south side of the tracks will be reopened for use at this time. The ramps were originally planned to open Monday, June 22, but were postponed due to Union Pacific work to extend the station platforms.
The Village contractor, John Burns Construction, will be paving and patching the south side of South Park Ave., and road work may cause temporary delays or road closures. Anticipated completion on this portion of the work is scheduled to be complete on or around July 10.
Remaining platform work by Union Pacific will continue and full project completion is scheduled for August. For additional information please feel free to call Lombard Public Works at (630) 620-5740 and visit www.VillageofLombard.org/MetraProject.
