The Lombard Police Department will be conducting roadside safety checkpoints overnight on Friday, July 3, 2015, as part of a statewide Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over campaign that is currently in effect through July 5, 2015
The intensified enforcement against impaired drivers and seat belt law violators is in effort to minimize the disproportionate number of traffic deaths caused by alcohol and failure to buckle up, during overnight hours on holiday weekends. Seat belt violations include passengers.
Lombard Police held a similar roadside safety checkpoint on August 29, 2014, as part of the Labor Day Weekend Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over campaign. This checkpoint resulted in 298 cars stopped, 1 DUI arrest, 2 arrests for cannabis and drug paraphernalia, 2 seat belt citations, 6 arrests for driving with a suspended/revoked license and 5 arrests for driving without a license.
Simple ways to avoid endangering your life and the lives of others include: establishing a designated driver or to take a cab if you have been consuming alcohol, and to buckle up whenever you get in a car.
The Lombard Police Department remains vigilant in keeping its residents and visitors to Lombard safe, by providing a safe and secure community through a dedicated and professional patrol force. For more information please contact Deputy Police Chief Tom Wirsing at (630)620-4480.
