St. Charles Road and Grace Street Asphalt Paving and Patching


Asphalt resurfacing, paving and patching beings this week on St. Charles Rd., from Westmore-Meyers to Grace, and on Grace St. from Prairie to Ash. Nightly lane closures will be necessary.

Timeline of scheduled construction includes:.

Week of August 10: Structure adjustments in roadway, replacement of driveway aprons (sidewalk to curb) due to damage from construction activity related to this project.

Friday, August 14: Grinding existing surface layer of asphalt pavement - Grace Street (north and south of tracks) at E. St. Charles Road. Expect delays.

Monday, August 17: NICOR work is tentatively scheduled for Monday, August 17, to address gas leak at intersection of N/B Grace Street (S/ tracks) at E. St. Charles Road. Road Closures are to be determined. Expect delays. According to NICOR, this is not a life threatening, nor is this a threat to property. The Village will provide more information as it becomes available.

Nightly Lane Closures.

Monday, August 17th- Wednesday, August 19th, 2015. Expect Delays. (7 PM – 7 AM)
Placement of final surface course- E. St. Charles Road (Westmore – Meyers Road to S. Grace Street)
- Grace Street (Prairie Avenue – Ash Street)

What can be expected during night time paving?.

- Drive with caution as workers will be on - site.
- Flaggers – Present during grinding, paving operations and as needed.- Stationary work lights may be present around flaggers.
- A lighting system will provide a minimum of 5 foot candles (54 lux) throughout the work area. 25 feet in front of and behind moving equipment. - The type of lights used will be lantern or balloon lights and will be positioned at least 12
feet above the roadway. - The lighting system is designed to effectively light work areas without spilling over to
adjoining properties. - Headlights of construction vehicles and equipment are not to be operated within the
work zone.- Trucks, pavers and rollers will be entering and leaving roadway. There will be some noise and vibration associated with this equipment.
- Traffic Control and Protection per IDOT standards will be in place.- Signage stating “Stay Alert, Nightly Lane Closures”
