In order to reduce future water main breaks and provide more than a 50–year life span for the existing water main along Roosevelt Road (Route 38), the Village of Lombard will be installing a new water main lining from Finley Road to Fairfield Avenue.
On Monday, June 27, construction activity begins with pit excavations along Roosevelt between Finley Road and Main Street; traffic control activity begins the week of June 20th.
Detour informationA detour will be place beginning June 27, for northbound lanes on Finley Road, north of Roosevelt. During this time, traffic will be detoured east on Roosevelt Road, north on Main Street, west on Wilson, and will end at Finley Road. This work is expected to last through August.
A second detour route will be established for stage 2 of the project in late August. More information will be made available on 38water.org.
Project informationThis project will take place over a two year period. Phase I will occur in 2016 and will extend from Finley Road to Fairfield Avenue. Phase II will be constructed in 2017 and will extend from Fairfield Avenue to Wisconsin Avenue.
Phase 1 includes state-of-the-art materials and technology, the Village of Lombard will be installing approximately 7,000 feet of cured-in-place water main lining. Cured-in-place lining allows the same benefits of replacing existing water main, but eliminates the need for large trenches and ripping up the entire roadway. In addition, the time needed to install the cured-in-place lining, is much less than replacing existing water main.
The project extends along Roosevelt Road from Finley Road to Fairfield Avenue and involves installing a temporary water main, replacing valves, fire hydrants, and fittings as necessary, while installing the cured-in-pace lining in the existing water main. Work may also include installing new water main in some locations. While this will affect traffic through Lombard, all businesses will be open and accessible throughout construction.
