At approximately 10:40 p.m., on Wednesday, January 18, the Lombard Fire Department responded to a reported garage fire on the 100 block of North Garfield Street.
According to Battalion Chief Al Greene, “Arriving fire crews encountered a fire in a detached garage adjacent to this one story, single family residence”. The fire department response was upgraded to a ‘special alarm’ which brought in assistance from neighboring fire agencies.
The occupants of the residence were not home at the time the fire was discovered. The fire was reported by a neighbor who called 911 after they saw flames coming from the back of the house. The garage and a vehicle inside the garage were both damaged extensively. There was also fire damage to the exterior of the home on the side of the home that faced the garage.
No injuries to residents, or emergency personnel were reported. The estimated combined damage to the garage, vehicle, home and contents is expected to exceed $60,000. The exact origin and cause of the fire is currently under investigation.
Lombard was assisted at the scene by the following fire agencies: Addison, Glenside, Lisle Woodridge and York Center Fire Protection Districts as well as the Downers Grove, Elmhurst, Hanover Park, and Villa Park Fire Departments.
