[ARCHIVED] Construction News and Updates from Public Works

road construction ahead

Main Street Improvement Project Update

The Main Street Improvement Project began in May and is scheduled for completion in August. Additionally, similar improvements are scheduled to begin on Main Street, from Wilson to Roosevelt in the coming weeks. Throughout construction, lane closures will be required, and subsequent traffic delays are anticipated.

The Village understands that construction impacts traffic and we apologize for any inconvenience that motorists have experienced due to the construction activity. This temporary inconvenience allows the Village to improve roadways, update infrastructure, and invest into the Lombard community for years to come. For more information on the project, please visit villageoflombard.org/main. Anyone wishing to receive more updates about the Main Street Improvement project may sign up for email notifications for the 2020 Main Street Improvements email list at villageoflombard.org/notifyme.

2020 Asphalt Paving & Patching Program Main Street & Parking Lots

  • Beginning the week of July 13th, work on Main Street from Wilson Avenue to Roosevelt Road will begin. The project will include surface removal and resurfacing, drainage adjustments, curb improvements as needed, and sidewalk work. Due to intermittent lane closures that will be required throughout the project, traffic impacts are expected to impact the Main Street and Roosevelt Road intersection. Sign boards will be in place ahead of the project, in order to notify motorists of the upcoming construction.
  • Parking lots at 115 W. St. Charles Rd. and 25 W. Maple Street (Historical Society, library staff, and commuter parking) will also be resurfaced in September (postponed from mid-July). The parking lots will be inaccessible during the construction. To receive email notifications about the Village’s Asphalt Paving and Patching, sign up at villageoflombard.org/notifyme.
  • Additional asphalt roadways will be as part of the Village’s annual pavement maintenance program. The Village’s Interactive Construction Map can be found at villageoflombard.org/constructionmap.

Sanitary Sewer Investigation and Smoke Testing

The Village of Lombard is conducting a smoke testing program to locate sources of water that enter the sanitary sewer system during rainstorms. This water can overload sanitary sewers and cause sewage backups in basements and other low-lying areas. The testing is scheduled for the week of July 20th, weather permitting. During testing, non-toxic, non-flammable and low scene liquid smoke is pressurized through the system. The smoke will rise from manholes, vent stacks on homes, and the ground where sewers may have leaks. The smoke will identify areas of the system that may require service. Affected residents will receive a door hanger with more information before smoke testing begins. Visit www.villageoflombard.org/sanitarysewerinvestigation for more information.
