The Lombard Police Department and the Lombard Citizens Police Academy Alumni Association (LCPAAA) is hosting Lombard's 19th Annual Shop With a Cop program, Dec. 2. Residents wishing to participate can donate funds or volunteer time.
The Shop with a Cop program is aimed at fostering positive relationships between youth and law enforcement. The LCPAAA selects the children based on the child’s good character, hard work at school, and other factors. The LCPAAA funds this program through community events through fundraising efforts throughout the year as well as soliciting funds, selling merchandise, and receiving donations from area merchants. One such source of fundraising for the Shop With a Cop Program are items sold by CPAAA during Lombard's Summer Concerts and Cruise Night events.
On the day of the event a Lombard Police Officer and member of the LCPAAAA team take a child shopping for holiday gifts for the child's siblings and parents. As the children shop for their families, other volunteers play Santa's helpers and shop for a variety of gifts for each child. The teams return to Village Hall for lunch with Santa and wrap their items. The goal of the program is to assist 10 families per year.
How Can I Help?Residents can give back this season by donating funds to the program. 100% of proceeds will go directly to Shop With a Cop. Donations can be mailed to LCPAAA, Attn: Shop With a Cop, 235 E. Wilson Ave., Lombard, IL 60148, or delivered to the Lombard Police Department.
