The Village of Lombard is currently accepting applications for its 2018 Youth Leadership Program. High school students who live in Lombard and are interested in learning about local government and public service are encouraged to apply.
Participating students will receive interactive presentations and tours from leaders in the Village Manager’s Office, Finance, Community Development, Police, Fire and Public Works Departments.
The program will take place at Village Hall, 255 E. Wilson Ave., on Thursday, Feb. 1, from 4 – 6 p.m., and on Thursday, Feb. 8, at Fire Station 45, 50 E. Wilson Ave., from 4 – 6 p.m. The final session will include a brief reception at Village Hall on Thursday,
Feb. 15, from 6:30-7 p.m. and will continue with a regularly scheduled Village Board Meeting, from 7 – 9 p.m. Students will be recognized by Lombard’s Village President and Board of Trustees, and will be presented with a certificate of completion for the program.
The Youth Leadership program is an initiative of the Village’s Community Relations Committee, which is focused on creating and fostering relationships between the Village of Lombard and its residents. “The goal of the program is to provide the opportunity for high school aged Lombard students to learn about the inner workings of their local government. It also allows students to see how each department works together to get things done,” said Community Relations Chairperson and Lombard Trustee Robyn Pike. “This is a fun experience, a great way to learn about the Village, and it could also be a helpful addition to college resumes.”
The class size will be kept to a maximum of 10 students, with a minimum of 7. All high school students between the ages of 14 and 18 are invited to apply, however Lombard residents will be given preferential admittance. Applications are available at www.villageoflombard.org/youthleadership and can be dropped off at Village Hall or emailed to meadea@villageoflombard.org by 4:30 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 15, 2017. Students chosen for the program will be notified by Tuesday, Jan. 16, 2017.
Anyone with questions regarding the program or application process can contact Lombard’s Communications Coordinator Avis Meade at (630)620-5718 or meadea@villageoflombard.org.
