The Village of Lombard has received numerous inquiries regarding curbside compost collection.
Village staff will be researching options for the collection through the existing contract with Waste Management and reviewing programs that have been implemented in surrounding communities. It is anticipated that the matter will be discussed with the Public Works and Environmental Concerns Committee at the March 13, 2018 meeting. The Committee meeting is open to the public.
The Village currently has an easy grant program to fully reimburse residents up to $80 to buy any compost yard bin. Making and using compost on your own property is a better practice than having it hauled away. Just download the grant application form, buy a bin from any source, and then turn in the form with a copy of the receipt and a photo following installation. It’s that easy! There are also other grant programs for a rain barrel, backyard flooding, clear water disconnect (downspouts and sump pumps), and overhead sewers (for chronic sewer backups). See www.villageoflombard.org/grantprograms for info.
