During the snow event that is impacting the Lombard area, updates will be posted here.
2:00 p.m., Feb 9 Update
In accordance with the Village of Lombard’s Snow Plan, snow and ice contract is conducted in the following manner:
- Maintain accessibility to all streets in the Village for emergency vehicles. Accessibility is defined as snow depths not sufficient to prevent drivability by emergency vehicles when said vehicles are properly operated.
- Maintain priority street drivability for the general public. For purposes of this report, priority streets are defined as:
NORTH OF ROOSEVELT ROAD

- St Charles - West of Route 53 to Addison

- Maintain minor street drivability for residents including cul-de-sacs.
- Provide normal driving conditions for all major streets.
- Provide commuter parking facilities and public building accessibility.
- Provide clear corners within a 2 block radius of all schools to increase visibility for both drivers 9 and school children walking to and from school. To accomplish this carry plowed snow past all cross walks instead of pushing snow against corners.
- Provide normal driving conditions for all minor streets.
- Provide vehicle access to private garages located off alleys, providing there are not cars in the way and the plows can get through.
- Remove snow in areas plowed to middle of road.
- Push back corners in plow zones.
- Conclude all operations 4-6 hours after the end of snowfall for less than 1”. Conclude all operations 10-12 hours after the end of snowfall for 1”-8”. Operations continue in shifts until finished for over 8”. Times may be extended based on extreme cold temperatures, ice accumulation or equipment problems.
The Village has equipment removing snow in the cul-de-sacs. The Village has over 80 cul-de-sacs and these locations are very time consuming. We ask residents to be patient with the removal effort. In the event of an emergency, Public Works will assist the Police Department or Fire Department in gaining access if needed.
Given the current forecast, the Village anticipates removing the windrow on Main Street, St. Charles and Westmore-Meyers on Sunday evening.
The Public Works Department appreciates the public’s cooperation on keeping roadways clear of parked cars, garbage cans and snow from private property.
9:00 a.m., Feb. 9 Update:
The Public Works Department is urging residents to remove vehicles from streets so snow removal efforts can operate efficiently. It is illegal to have cars parked on Village streets after 1" of snowfall because this slows down snow plow trucks and prevents streets from being completely plowed.
Snow Event Update: As of 6 a.m. this morning, Lombard has experienced approximately 5.5” of snow on the ground snow continues to steadily fall. Public Works crews have been working the snow event around the clock and will continue that effort until the completion of the storm. All of Lombard’s 166 miles of roads that the Village is responsible for have been plowed and corners have been pushed back. Since snow continues to fall and collect at a steady rate, crews have started the plow routes over from the beginning. Priority roads are being plowed right now, with other zones to be plowed after. (Learn about our snow removal plan and priority zones at www.villageoflombard.org/winter.) Openings in windrows (piles of snow in the middle of some streets including Main) are being cleared by the loader so vehicles can turn. Commuter parking lots and sidewalks are currently working.
Waste Management Collection Delayed
Trash and recycling will be collected on Saturday instead of Friday due to the coming snow. Please do not place carts curbside until Friday evening, and a few feet behind the curb, since they may be tipped over by plowed snow. Also, remember that on-street parking is also prohibited after one inch of snowfall in order to allow safe and effective plowing. Please take your time moving heavy snow, and allow more time for your morning commute. The zone map is at www.villageoflombard.org/DocumentCenter/Home/View/488.
Driveway Shoveling Tip
Public Works snow plow drivers are working 12 hour shifts due to the current snow event. Avoiding driveway entrances when snow plowing streets is not possible, however residents can help minimize the snow pushed into their driveways by clearing a pocket before the driveway where snow can exit the plow. Snow Plow Safety
When navigating roads during winter conditions, drivers may encounter a snow plow. It's important to remember this simple phrase: Don't Crowd The Plow! Give snow plows ample room. Following plows too closely could cause decreased visibility for drivers and unsafe conditions.

Do NOT Shovel or Blow Snow into Street
Residents and businesses are reminded to not plow, blow or shovel snow into Village streets. This practice is prohibited because it hinders the efforts of Village crews to keep streets clear of snow, creates safety hazards for others, and impacted snow may increase ice on the road.
