The Village of Lombard recently recognized the promotions of several Police Officers, and the promotions as well as new hires in the Fire Department. These promotions and new hires were celebrated at a swearing in ceremony at Village Hall, March 1, 2018.
Police DepartmentDeputy Chief Cyndy VelazquezDeputy Chief Velazquez joined the Lombard Police Department in April of 1990. She has served in the United States Army as a supply specialist, earned a bachelor’s detree in LE Administration and a Master’s Degree in Organization Management from Benedictine University. Prior to this role, Velazquez has worked as a Patrol Officer, Accreditation Manager, Street Sergeant, Street Lieutenant, and Lieutenant of Investigations.
Lieutenant John MalatiaLieutenant John Malatia has worked with the Lombard Police Department since 1994. He attended Costal Carolina University where he earned his degree in Political Science. Malatia has worked as a Patrol Officer, Detective, Street Sargent, and Detective Sergeant before being promoted to Lieutenant.
Sergeant Jason ChudzinskiSergeant Jason Chudzinski has been with the Lombard Police Department for 8 years where he served as a Patrol Officer and Detective prior to his role as Sergeant. Chudzinski received his bachelor’s degree in marketing from Illinois State University.
Fire DepartmentDeputy Chief Ray KickertDeputy Chief Kickert began his career with the Lombard Fire Department as a firefighter/paramedic in 1991. He was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant in 2000 and to the rank of Battalion Chief in 2012. Deputy Chief Kickert holds a Chief Fire Officer Designation from the Office of the IL State Fire Marshal and prior to his recent promotion, he previously served in the following capacities; the Department’s vehicle maintenance officer; a member of the firefighters pension board (for the majority of his career) and as the EMS Coordinator. Deputy Chief Kickert is a graduate of Western Illinois University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Law Enforcement Administration and minor in Sociology.
Battalion Chief Brian A. StuartBattalion Chief Stuart began his career with the Lombard Fire Department as a firefighter/paramedic in 1991. He was promoted to Lieutenant in 2008. Battalion Chief Stuart currently serves as the Fire Investigation Unit Commander, and as Deputy Director of the Office of Emergency Management. He holds a Chief Fire Officer Designation from the Office of the State Fire Marshal, is a graduate of Southern Illinois University Carbondale with a Bachelor’s Degree in Fire Service Administration, and a Master’s of Science Degree in Fire Service & Homeland Security Management. He also attended the College of DuPage, where he earned three Associates of Science Degrees in Fire Science Technology, Emergency Medical Services and Education.
Lieutenant Jeff AbruzinoLieutenant Abruzino began his career with the Lombard Fire Department as a firefighter/paramedic in 2006. He currently serves as one of the Public Education members for the Department and recently joined the Technical Rescue Team in 2017. He has also been a part of the team for the Fire Apparatus Pump Testing with the Village for the last six years. Lieutenant Abruzino is a graduate of Northern Illinois University with a Bachelor’s and Master’s Degree in Anthropology and Archeology.
Firefighter/Paramedic Steven KemnetzSteven attended Joilet Junior College and Moraine Valley Community College with an Associates of Science Degree in Fire Science Technology and Emergency Medical Services and comes to us from Romeoville and Westmont Fire Departments. Steven is currently engaged to be married in November 2018. He started with the Department on February 5th and is currently attending the Romeoville Fire Academy.
Firefighter/Paramedic Blake TalipBlake attended Waubonsee Community College with an Associates of Science Degree in Fire Science and Emergency Medical Technician. Blake comes to us from the Wood Dale Fire Protection District. He is recently married 5 months. Blake started with the Department on February 5th and is currently attending the Romeoville Fire Academy.
