The Lombard Police Department is participating in upcoming fundraising events in support of the Illinois Special Olympics.
Officers will be participating in events including: “Tip A Cop” at Claim Jumper restaurant at Yorktown Shopping Center, Thursday, April 12, 5-8 p.m.; “Cop On Top” of Dunkin Donuts locations at Main Street near Roosevelt Rd., Yorktown Shopping Center, and North Avenue and Grace Street, on Friday, May 18, 5 a.m. – 12 p.m.; and the DuPage County Torch Run event that will pass through Lombard on Sunday, June 10, beginning at Main Street and Wilson Ave. at approximately 10:45 a.m. and heading north to Parkside Ave.
The Law Enforcement Torch Run® for Special Olympics is the movement's largest grass-roots fundraiser and public awareness vehicle, raising over 4.4 million dollars in Illinois during 2017. Last year law enforcement officers carried the Flame of Hope and volunteered to support more than 22,000 athletes with intellectual disabilities and more than 20,000 young athletes ages 2-7 with and without intellectual disabilities and their families.
