MAY 9 UPDATE: FINLEY ROAD CLOSURES TO BEGIN MAY 14, BETWEEN HICKORY ST. AND CHARLES LN., JUST NORTH OF MADISON ST. TRAFFIC WILL BE REDUCED TO 1 LANE, WITH ALTERNATING NORTH AND SOUTHBOUND TRAFFIC, FOR APPROXIMATELY 1 WEEK, DEPENDING ON WEATHER.
MAY 8, 2018: Construction began this week on the Finley Park subdivision at the SW corner of Finley & Hickory. Hickory Street will be closed, west of Finley to Vance Street, during the day from 7 a.m. - 4 p.m., due to sewer construction, for approximately 1 month, with a complete closure scheduled for an additional month after that time.
The site is being cleared of trees, the former DCHD Crisis Center, and the 4 homes near the southwest corner of Hickory and Finley. The buildings will be demolished after the Fire Department uses some of them for training, which is anticipated to occur next week. There will be 17 buildable lots elevated well above the floodplain, and extra flood water storage volume will be excavated to benefit the area, per code.
At the end of each day, the excavation will be covered with steel plates for safety and to allow local traffic and emergency vehicles to have access outside of their work hours. This closure is being done in order to replace an existing 90” clay combined sewer line in association with the required public improvements for the Finley Park Subdivision. Notices have been sent to residents directly affected by the temporary road closure.
