The Village of Lombard is pleased to announce its approval of significant changes to the existing Downtown Lombard Renovation and Improvement Grant program to promote and enhance accessibility improvements in the downtown Lombard area.
The changes were unanimously approved by the Lombard Village Board at their May 17, 2018 meeting.
The approved grant changes to the existing Improvement and Renovation Grant Program are significant and include, but not be limited to:
Grant funding is made through the Lombard Tax Increment Financing (TIF) program. The Village’s Economic and Community Development Committee (ECDC) oversees review of the program and the Committee unanimously supported the expansion of the grant program.
District 4 Trustee Bill Johnston, who serves as the Chair of the ECDC, supports the amendments. “These changes will strengthen the downtown area by providing an additional opportunity for businesses and restaurants to make external improvements to their storefronts that can increase their overall customer base. The amendments demonstrate the Village’s ongoing desire to partner with businesses and property owners to creatively meet business challenges.”
Keith Steiskal, the Village’s designated accessibility coordinator, noted that “the Village has received many service requests from residents and potential customers stating that they would like to visit a given business but the existing access into an establishment prevents them from doing so. The grant changes will help allow business to make additional improvements to meet their needs.”
