During Illinois Speed Awareness Day this July 25th, the Lombard Police Department is taking a proactive approach to promote safety for motorists, pedestrians, and cyclists through both education and enforcement.

During Illinois' Speed Awareness Day on July 25, 2018, the Lombard Police Department stopped 167 vehicles, issued 109 citations (4 for aggravated speeding), and gave 38 warnings for speeding violations. Overall, 132 citations and 58 warnings were issued for traffic offenses along with two DUI arrests, one warrant arrest, two arrests for driving while license suspended, and two arrests for drug offenses.

In Illinois during 2016, speed was the reason for 34.2% of all fatal crashes. That’s 369 deaths for the year, or one life every 23.7 hours. These lives can be easily saved by being aware of our speed and understanding how speeding impacts a crash.
