The Village is thanking residents and businesses that have shown support for students injured in a bonfire incident at the start of the summer. The display of red ribbons showed a great outpouring of support for those injured or affected.
The Village is requesting that those who tied a ribbon to a tree, please remove the ribbon, or periodically loosen the ribbons for the health of the tree. Any item tied around trees can have a long term negative affect on the growth of the tree.
All trees grow both in height and diameter throughout the summer. The Village Forestry Department has encountered a number of young trees that are showing signs of bark constriction as the trees have grown, due to ribbons tied around the tree. This constriction can cause damage to the tree’s conductive tissues, potentially stunting the growth or killing the tree.
Lombard’s Forestry staff thanks the community for its support of both the students and the trees. Please call Communications Coordinator Avis Meade at (630)620-5718 with any questions.
