Lombard Public Works was recently presented with the Innovation Award at the DuPage Mayors and Managers Conference, for its first ever Public Works Citizens Academy.
The program was held over consecutive weeks throughout April and May and allowed residents to experience interactive hands-on training activities, tours of Village facilities and presentations by Public Works staff. The goals of the program were to increase positive citizen engagement with the Public Works Department and to increase citizen knowledge of Public Works operations, in order to maintain a high level of transparency and build trust with the community.
“The program filled up with interested residents almost immediately,” said Public Works Director Carl Goldsmith. “It was good to connect with our residents and remind them that while construction is frustrating, it’s actually a good thing. It means that problems are being solved and concerns are being fixed. Above all else, Public Works is here to improve Lombard for businesses, visitors and residents.”
Residents interested in signing up for the 2019 Public Works Citizens Academy should sign up for the Village’s E-Pride Newsletter (www.villageoflombard.org/epride) and follow Lombard on Facebook and Twitter for updates.
