At approximately 9:48 a.m. on Wednesday, October 3, the Lombard Fire Department responded to a report of a fire at a business on the 600 block of E. Roosevelt.
As crews responded, a smoke plume was spotted on the 600 block of W. Roosevelt Rd., in unincorporated Lombard, and several crews were diverted to that direction. After confirming no fire at the original address, remaining crews diverted to W. Roosevelt where the roof of a vacant restaurant building was on fire.
The first Lombard Fire Department crews arrived on scene at 9:53 a.m. A hose line was pulled to the roof and crews began an aggressive attack on the fire. Other crews forced entry to the interior of the building and checked for fire extension. The fire was declared under control at approximately 10:01 a.m. Firefighters continued to ventilate smoke and perform salvage and overhaul activities.
Roof workers were on the scene working when the fire started and the fire appears to be accidental in nature. No civilians or firefighters were injured in the fire. Damage to the building and contents is estimated to be less than $20,000.
Lombard firefighters were assisted by Downers Grove, Oak Brook, and Villa Park Fire Departments, as well as Oakbrook Terrace and York Center Fire Protection Districts. Please contact Deputy Chief Ray Kickert with any questions at (630) 620-5736.
