Lombard Police and Fire Departments welcome new members and recognize promotion

At a brief reception before the Lombard Village Board of Trustees Meeting on Thursday, February 22, the Lombard Police and Fire Departments welcomed new members and a promotion.

Lombard Police Department

  • Abigail Lauer was sworn in as a new Police Officer. Abigail is currently completing her Doctorate degree. Abigail previously worked with the Lombard Police Department in the records department. Abigail attended the Suburban Law Enforcement Academy in 2013 and has worked with the Hanover Park Police Department.
  • Cory Cairo was sworn in as a new Police Officer. Cory joined the Chicago Police Department in February 2016 and attended the C.P.D. Academy. Cory was hired by the Lombard Police Department in October of 2018 and has recently completed his field training and is now serving Lombard as a Patrol Officer.

Lombard Fire Department
Lombard Firefighter/Paramedic Joe Shark was promoted to Lieutenant. Joe began his career with the Lombard Fire Department as a firefighter in October 2006. Prior to joining the Department, Lt. Shark served six years in the Navy and was assigned to a nuclear submarine. He is a licensed paramedic and holds numerous fire related certifications including, Fire Officer II Provisional and is a member of the Lombard Fire Investigation Unit and previously served as a member of the Department’s Hazardous Material Team.

  • Brian Kurth was sworn is a new Firefighter/Paramedic. Brian comes to Lombard from the McHenry Fire Protection District. Brian is currently attending Romeoville’s eight-week Basic Fire Academy.
  • Matthew Rutten was sworn in as a new Firefighter/Paramedic. Matthew comes to Lombard from Oregon and Villa Park Fire Departments. Matthew obtained his paramedic license through Silver Cross Hospital and recently completed eight-weeks of Basic Firefighter Training at the Romeoville Fire Academy. He was motivated to pursue a career in firefighting at the age of 17 to follow in the footsteps of his uncle and two brothers.
  • Joel Montiel was sworn in as a new Firefighter/Paramedic. Joel comes to Lombard from the Bensenville and Winfield Fire Protection Districts and the Romeoville Fire Department. Joel is currently attending Romeoville’s eight-week Basic Firefighter Academy.
