The Village has been made aware that flyers for a white nationalist group were recently posted on public property in downtown Lombard. The Village of Lombard is a proudly diverse community that embraces all of its residents and visitors.
Our main goal is the safety and quality of life of all Lombardians and we fully reject the discrimination of any person based on their race, religion, national origin, sexual orientation, gender, or any other personal freedom. Messages of hate and intolerance are an affront to the values and beliefs of our community and will not be tolerated. Unfortunately, over recent months other neighboring communities have experienced similar incidents and postings.
The placement of this material on public property is illegal. Village staff began removing the items this morning and will continue to seek out and remove any additional flyers or signage. The Lombard Police Department continues to investigate this matter. The Police Department maintains an active partnership with residents to foster a safe and welcoming community, and takes this incident very seriously. Anyone with information is encouraged to call 9-1-1.
Update: On the evening of March 13, the Village of Lombard received a report of flyers placed on downtown street poles from a local business owner. Village staff verified and subsequently removed multiple flyers from various locations with downtown Lombard. The posted flyers listed the name of an organization which has been identified as a white nationalist group. The group in question has been identified by the Anti-Defamation League as a white supremacist organization and has been designated as a hate group by the Southern Poverty Law Center. The name of this organization has been withheld here to avoid use of Village communications and social media platforms to recognize, publicize or inadvertently promote a neo-Nazi hate group. Village staff continues to monitor for additional flyers and the Police Department continues to investigate this matter.
