To help address the vital public safety and public health issue of prescription drug abuse and accidental poisonings, the Village of Lombard is participating in the Drug Enforcement Agency sponsored National Take Back Day.
Anyone wishing to safely dispose of unwanted or expired prescription drugs, is encouraged to bring them to the Lombard Police Department at 235 E. Wilson Ave., on Saturday, April 27, 10 a.m. – 2 p.m.
Expired or unwanted medicines that are commonly found in home cabinets are highly susceptible to diversion, misuse, and abuse. Studies show that many abused prescription drugs are obtained from family and friends’ home medicine cabinets. This event provides residents a safe solution for drug disposal.
The last Take-Back Day brought in more than 900,000 pounds of unused or expired prescription medication, bringing the total amount of prescription drugs collected by DEA since the fall of 2010 to 10,878,950 pounds.
Please contact the Lombard Police Department with any questions at (630)873-4400. Visit www.takebackday.dea.gov for more information.
