[ARCHIVED] Arrests Made in Response to Robbery of Local Restaurants

Social Image Police Department Update

DuPage County State’s Attorney Robert Berlin, Wheaton Chief of Police Bill Murphy and Lombard Chief of Police Row Newton announced today that two Texas men have been arrested and charged with the October 14 robbery of two Chick-Fil-A restaurants located in Wheaton and Lombard. Roosevelt Hart, 26 (d.o.b. 12/10/1993) and Henry Wilson, (pictured) 25 (d.o.b. 1/12/1995), both of Houston, appeared in Bond Court this morning where Judge Brian Telander set bond at $250,000 with 10% to apply for each defendant. Both men have been charged with two counts of Burglary, a Class 2 Felony. At the time of the press release, a photo of Roosevelt Hart was unavailable.

On October 14, 2020, at approximately 3:49 a.m., officers with the Wheaton Police Department were dispatched to the Chick-Fil-A restaurant located at 301 East Loop Road. Upon their arrival, officers observed a shattered window on the west side of the building. Officers also allegedly found Hart and Wilson inside the restaurant attempting to break into the safe using a blow torch. It is alleged that when officers gave commands to the defendants, they barricaded themselves inside the store for approximately ten minutes before surrendering to officers without further incident. It is further alleged that through their investigation into the matter, Hart and Wilson were identified as suspects in a similar robbery at a Chick-Fil-A located at 717 E. Butterfield Road, Lombard approximately thirty minutes earlier.

“It is alleged that within half an hour, Mr. Hart and Mr. Roosevelt burglarized two Chick-Fil-A locations in DuPage County,” Berlin said. “The quick response displayed by all those who assisted in this matter exemplifies DuPage County law enforcement’s commitment to public safety. I commend the Wheaton Police Department not only for their swift response but also for the professionalism displayed in this matter which resulted in the suspects’ peaceful surrender. I would like to thank the Warrenville, Glen Ellyn and West Chicago Police Departments for their assistance in this case. I would also like to thank Assistant State’s Attorneys Helen Kapas, Nicole Wilkes-English, Anthony Pasquini and Deanna Barbaro for their work in preparing a strong case against these two defendants.”

“Tremendous police work was demonstrated by the officers involved” Murphy said. “Their quick actions provided the suspects with no option but to surrender. Once again, multiple DuPage County agencies worked together with Bob Berlin’s office to remove criminals from our communities.”

“I would like to thank our colleagues in law enforcement for putting an abrupt end to what appeared to be a crime spree in the making,” Newton said. “I would also like to thank the State’s Attorney’s Office for securing the appropriate charges against these two defendants.”

Hart’s next court appearance is scheduled for October 19, 2020 and Wilson’s next court appearance is scheduled for October 26. Both men will face a source of funds hearing at their next appearance, which will be in front of Judge Alex McGimpsey.

Members of the public are reminded that these complaints contain only charges and are not proof of the defendants’ guilt. The defendants are presumed innocent and are entitled to a fair trial in which it is the government’s burden to prove their guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.
