On Tuesday, May 3, 2022, at 4:12 p.m., the Lombard Fire Department responded to a report of a structure fire on the 100 block of South Lombard Avenue in Lombard. Dispatch received several 911 calls about a garage on fire. The first Lombard Fire Department crew arrived on the scene at 4:15 p.m. to find heavy smoke conditions throughout the area and a well-involved, detached garage fire.

Fire department personnel quickly stretched a hose line up the driveway to initiate a rapid knock-down of the fire. A second hose line was charged to assist with fire extinguishment. The heat was intense enough to crack several windows on the nearby home, and fire had also extended to a vehicle in the driveway. Firefighters brought the fire under control, preventing further damage to nearby structures or property.

There were no injuries to citizens or firefighters. The garage was deemed a total loss, with damage to the building and its contents estimated at $50,000. The fire remains under investigation by the Lombard Fire Investigation Unit.

Lombard firefighters were assisted on the scene by Elmhurst and Villa Park Fire Departments, as well as Addison and York Center Fire Protection Districts. Lombard Police assisted with traffic and crowd control.
