[ARCHIVED] Lombard to Host 2022 Memorial Day Ceremony on Monday, May 30

2022 Memorial Day Ceremony 395

The Village of Lombard will hold its annual Memorial Day Ceremony on Monday, May 30, 2022, at 10 a.m. at the Sunken Garden in Common Park (just east of the Grace St. and Maple St. intersection). All community members are invited to help honor the men and women who served in our country’s military as well as those who gave their lives for our freedoms.

Attendees and nearby residents are reminded that the ceremony will include a cannon fire provided by Stanford’s Battery Civil War Cannon, a controlled gun salute from the Lilac VFW Post 5815, and a wreath-laying ceremony.

This year’s keynote speaker will be Thomas Zilla. Tom is a Vietnam Veteran who served with the Army’s I Corp Aviation Co. (Provisional) as a Flight Operations Specialist and a Gunner on Huey Helicopters.

Members of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Lilac Post #5815, the American Legion Lombard Post #391, Lombard Park District, Lombard Historical Society, Lombard Junior Women’s Club, Glenbard East High School, Brust Funeral Home, local scouts, and residents will be participating in the ceremony.

Following the ceremony, all attendees are strongly encouraged to visit with veterans. The Lombard Historical Society will also be on-site with historical items, weather permitting. Refreshments will be provided by volunteers from the Lombard Citizen’s Police Academy Alumni Association.

Due to limited parking and seating, attendees are encouraged to walk to the ceremony and bring a lawn chair, if possible.

In the event of severe weather, the Village’s Memorial Day Ceremony will be moved indoors to the Community Room at Lombard Village Hall, 255 E. Wilson Ave, and updates will be posted at www.villageoflombard.org, as well as the Village’s social media pages.

If you have questions, please contact Communications Coordinator Stephanie Calvillo at (630) 620-5718.
