To reduce highway fatalities, the Lombard Police Department collaborated with other state and local law enforcement agencies for the Thanksgiving traffic safety campaign. The enforcement effort ran from November 18-28, reminding motorists to buckle up and drive sober.
During the campaign, Lombard Police issued the following:
- 27 speeding citations
- 23 seatbelt citations
- 4 car seat citations
- 15 distracted driving citations (cell phone)
- 18 other citations (moving/non-moving)
- 7 arrests
- 5 traffic arrests (no valid/suspended/revoked licenses)
- 1 warrant arrest
- 1 criminal misdemeanor arrest
“Our officers patrol year-round to keep motorists buckled up and impaired drivers off the roads,” said Lombard Traffic Safety Unit Officer Dan Herrera. “We do this to save lives and ensure all of us make it home safely at the end of the day.”
The Thanksgiving enforcement effort is made possible by federal traffic safety funds administered by the Illinois Department of Transportation and is part of the statewide “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” and “Click It or Ticket” campaigns.
