On Monday, January 16, 2023, at approximately 10:28 p.m., the Lombard Fire Department responded to a report of a structure fire on the 200 block of N. Stewart Ave in Lombard. The first Fire Department crews arrived at 10:32 p.m. and found a large fire on the side of the single-family home.

Firefighters quickly deployed a hose line to initiate an attack on the exterior fire. At the same time, additional crews deployed a second hose line inside the home to prevent the fire from extending further. The fire was declared under control within 15 minutes; however, crews remained on the scene, completing salvage and overall operations.

There were no injuries to the family, who were able to evacuate the home prior to the arrival of fire crews; however, one Lombard firefighter sustained a minor injury at the fire. According to Deputy Chief Ray Kickert, the quick actions of the first arriving crews kept the home from suffering more significant damage.

The Lombard Fire Investigation Unit investigated the cause of the fire, which appears to be accidental, starting in the fireplace area. The fire caused approximately $90,000 in damage to the home which was ruled uninhabitable after the fire. The American Red Cross was working to find temporary housing for the family.

The Lombard Fire Department was assisted by the Villa Park and Elmhurst Fire Departments, as well as the Addison and York Center Fire Protection Districts. Lombard Police assisted with traffic and crowd control.
