[ARCHIVED] Lombard Police Announce Security Camera Registration Program

The Lombard Police Department has launched a new voluntary security camera registration program to enhance public safety and reduce crime through collaboration with the community.

The program encourages residents and business owners with external-facing security cameras, video doorbells and similar systems to voluntarily register their security cameras with the Lombard Police Department. By doing so, Lombard Police can quickly contact registered camera owners in the area of a crime to determine if their camera system recorded any critical evidence.

“The goal of this program is to create a partnership between the Lombard Police Department and our community,” commented Deputy Chief Joe Grage. “By registering security cameras, residents and businesses can help us quickly identify potential suspects, getaway vehicles or criminal activity after a crime occurs.”

Participation in the program is voluntary and free of charge. Enrollment in the program does not grant the Lombard Police Department direct access or control over any privately-owned cameras or security systems without consent. Additionally, there is no requirement to provide footage at any time. Lombard Police will strictly utilize this registry as an investigative tool after a crime occurs to gather critical information.

To register your security camera system or learn more about the program, please visit villageoflombard.org/securitycamera. For additional questions regarding the program, please contact the Lombard Police Department at (630) 873-4400 or email police@villageoflombard.org
