On Saturday, April 22, 2023, at approximately 2:29 p.m., the Lombard Fire Department responded to a report of a structure fire on the 600 block of N. Vista Ave in Lombard. Early reports described a fire on the exterior of the home that the resident was attempting to extinguish with a garden hose.

The first responding Fire Department crews arrived at 2:34 p.m. and found that the exterior fire had mostly been extinguished by the resident. However, the fire had spread into a portion of the attic. Fire crews quickly took action to protect the resident's property with tarps before removing the ceiling and extinguishing a small fire in the attic. The fire damage was limited to a small area of the home, and there were no reported injuries to the residents or responders.

"We are grateful for the quick action of our responding firefighters, who worked diligently to ensure that the fire was contained and that the resident's property was protected," said Deputy Chief Ray Kickert.

The fire caused an estimated $30,000 in damage to the house, and the residents are temporarily displaced. The Lombard Fire Investigations Unit is currently investigating the cause of the fire.

The Lombard Fire Department was assisted by the Villa Park and Addison Fire Departments. Lombard Police also provided assistance with traffic and crowd control.

Residents are reminded to take precautions when dealing with fire and to always call 911 for assistance. For any questions regarding this incident, please contact Deputy Chief Kickert at (630) 620-5736.
