As millions of travelers hit the road for summer vacations, the Lombard Police Department is joining the Illinois Department of Transportation and Illinois State Police to urge motorists to stop speeding and keep their eyes on the road to help ensure everyone reaches their destinations safely.
“Over the past few years, we have seen an increase in careless and risky driving. No matter how safe of a driver you think you may be, speeding is dangerous,” said Sergeant Tom Balsitis. “Speed limits aren’t a suggestion – they’re the law.”
Lombard Police will issue tickets to speeding drivers and increase patrols from July 6 to July 23, including Speed Awareness Day on July 26. A targeted Distracted Driving enforcement campaign will also be conducted from July 27 to August 18.
The speed and distracted driving enforcement efforts are made possible by federal traffic safety funds administered by IDOT.
