Police Recognize Distracted Driving Awareness Month in April

April is Distracted Driving Awareness Month across the nation, and the Lombard Police Department is urging drivers to drop their phones and focus on the road with a not-so-subtle reminder: “Phone in One Hand. Ticket in the Other.”

“It has become all too common to see people driving down the road while looking at their phones,” said Traffic Safety Unit Officer Dan Herrera. “People know texting and driving is both dangerous and illegal, but they do it anyway, putting themselves and others at risk. During April, drivers will see increased law enforcement efforts as officers stop and ticket anyone who texts or uses their cell phones while driving.”

Medical Sharps Disposal Now Available at Village Hall

To help community residents safely dispose of their syringes and other medical-use needles, also known as “sharps”, the Village of Lombard has installed a sharps drop box in the lobby of Lombard Village Hall (255 E. Wilson Ave). Residents can safely discard their medical use needles in the container during lobby walk-in hours, Monday through Thursday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. This location does not accept sharps containers for disposal.

The Sharps Disposal program is intended for Lombard residents only (no businesses) and is designed to offer people who are dependent on injectable medications a convenient location to safely dispose of their medical sharps.

April is Safe Digging Month: Call JULIE Before You Dig!

Putting up a fence, installing a mailbox post, building a deck or patio and planting trees and shrubs are all common examples of digging projects that require a call to JULIE first. This is a free call and service.

April marks National Safe Digging Month across the United States, reminding homeowners and professional excavators in Illinois to contact JULIE, Inc. (JULIE) at 8-1-1 before every digging project this spring, regardless of the size or depth.
