national rail safety week

National Rail Safety Week

The Village of Lombard is proud to be joining forces with first responder agencies in the U.S. and Canada today for “Operation Clear Track” — the single largest rail-safety initiative in North America.

Six things to know and remember about train safety:

  • Stay alert: Trains can be quiet. Make sure you are alert when near train tracks.
  • Watch the overhang: Trains are wider than the tracks - never sit on the edge of a station platform
  • Stand away from the platform edge: Stay at least 3 feet away from the train
  • When on board, hold on: Hold tight to poles or seats
  • Watch your step: Be careful entering and exiting trains as there may be a gap between the train and the platform.
  • Don't take shortcuts with your life: Follow directional signs and markings. Crossing the tracks anywhere else is dangerous and illegal.
