The Deadline to Complete the 2020 Census has Been Moved to Oct. 15

The U.S. Census Bureau recently announced that the deadline to complete the Census was moved from October 31st to October 15th.

The self-response and field data collection operations for the 2020 Census will conclude on October 15, 2020.

Residents are encouraged to complete their 2020 Census without delay.

Help Fund Your Community

When you respond to the census, you help ensure that your community receives its fair share of the more than $675 billion per year in federal funds spent on schools, hospitals, roads, public works and other vital programs.

Funding is based on population totals and your community benefits the most when the census counts everyone. For example, if 90% of Lombardians complete their Census, that's still 10% going under-reported. That would cause the Village to lose out on more than $7.8 million over the next 10 years!

The Census Determines Your Representation in Congress

Each state sends two Senators to represent their state in the U.S. Senate in Washington D.C. However, the amount of State Representatives is determined by population data from the Census. Information from the Census is used to divide the 435 memberships, or seats, in the U.S. House of Representatives among the 50 states, based on the state population counts that result from each decennial census. The Census results will determine the number of seats each state will have in the U.S. House of Representatives for the next 10 years.
