Support Local Restaurants and Businesses

The State of Illinois has announced heightened mitigation measures will be put into place for for Region 8, which encompasses all of Kane and DuPage County, including Lombard, beginning12:01 a.m. on Friday, Oct.23.

These mitigation efforts include the restriction of indoor service for bars and restaurants.

To help assist our local restaurants, the Village has created an interactive map, available at www.villageoflombard.org/shoplocal, that shows the locations of restaurants that have outdoor seating. Residents are strongly encouraged to support a local restaurant when possible.

Help Slow The Spread of Illness

To help return Region 8 to Phase 4, the Village of Lombard is encouraging all community members to follow safety protocols set forth by the CDC to help slow the spread of COVID-19. Help support your local businesses by acting responsibly to slow the spread of illness by following the 3 W's: Washing hands, watching your distance, and wearing masks.

Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over Halloween Campaign

While Halloween celebrations may be different this year, many ghosts and ghouls will still be on the “haunt” for a frighteningly good time. Lombard Police will have extra enforcements on the road from October 17th – November 2nd, cracking down on drunk and impaired drivers. Motorists are reminded about the importance of planning ahead for a sober ride home and for keeping an eye out for little goblins walking along roads after dark.

Halloween Recommendations and Reminders

The Village is sharing reminders and recommendations from the Illinois Department of Public Health and the CDC regarding Halloween and trick-or-treating during the COVID-19 pandemic.

While the Village has annually recommended trick-or-treating hours from 3-7 p.m., to help keep our community safe, there is no official policy or ordinance in place with designated or enforceable hours, beyond recommended guidance.

  • The Village’s top priority is resident safety. Ultimately, each resident must make the decision as to whether or not they would like to engage in Halloween activities, and if so, how.
  • If you choose to trick-or-treat on Halloween night, please take extra precautions to maintain social distance, wear masks, avoid touching of the face (mouth/nose/eyes), and use hand sanitizer often.
  • Citizens not wishing to participate in trick-or-treating may turn off their porch lights and close their door to indicate their non-participation. Residents may also display a sign indicating that their house is not participating in trick-or-treating.

Fall Leaf Pick Up Begins Nov. 9

Lombard’s annual six-week free leaf pick-up for residents will begin Monday, Nov. 9 and end Friday, Dec. 18, when all yard waste collection will cease for the year. During this time, residential property owners may place an unlimited amount of paper bags containing only leaves curbside on their normal Waste Management collection day without need of stickers. This program has been adjusted to begin later, in order to accommodate later leaf fall patterns. Residents are also encouraged to take advantage of the Compost Bin Reimbursement Program, which provides up to $80. The Free Leaf Collection Program does not include brush collection, which requires bundling with non-plastic twine and yard waste stickers. Visit www.villageoflombard.org/yardwaste for information on leaf and brush collection.
