Prevent Frozen Pipes During Extremely Cold Temperatures

In extremely cold temperatures, Public Works responds to many calls for frozen pipes. To avoid this situation it is advisable to let the water run at a constant trickle until the temperature rises. Lower lake water temperatures combined with cold air movement around plumbing fixtures can create freezing in water lines. Under these conditions, water can freeze in the lines in just a couple of hours.

Residents can help prevent frozen pipes by following these tips.

Support Local Restaurants and Businesses

Region 8, including Lombard, has moved to Phase 4 of the State of Illinois Restore Illinois Plan, which includes decreased restrictions on indoor dining. Residents are strongly encouraged to choose to dine and shop locally whenever possible. It is our hope that residents will recognize the importance of supporting local businesses at this important time.

Customers should expect to comply with social distance and should continue to wear masks in situations when a minimum of 6’ of social distance cannot be maintained.
