Main Street AT&T Repair Project Update

The Village has been coordinating with AT&T regarding the completion of the repair and restoration of the utility lines under Main Street, between St. Charles Rd. and Parkside Avenue in downtown Lombard. The repair is the result of underground equipment that was damaged by a contractor directionally boring for a telecommunication provider. While all work is being completed by contractors that have been hired by AT&T and/or Everstream Communication, the Village will continue to share updates as they are made available.

The Village has been notified that underground utility work is expected to be completed the week of May 10th and paving/restoration is expected to be completed the week of May 17th, depending on weather. The Village appreciates the patience of the Lombard residents, business owners, and commuters, while the necessary repairs are completed.

Lombard Recognizes Work Zone Awareness Week

Lombard Public Works is joining industry partners and frontline construction workers throughout Illinois for National Work Zone Awareness Week, April 26 - 30th, asking the public to “Drive safe. Work safe. Save lives.”

In 2020, 37 people died in work zones in Illinois, including two workers. Throughout this construction season, the public should be on alert for lane closures, changes in traffic patterns, reduced speed limits and the presence of workers and equipment.

Distracted Driving Awareness Month

The Village of Lombard is reminding motorists about the dangers of distracted driving. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, a total of 26,004 people died in U.S. crashes involving a distracted driver between 2012 and 2019.

Lombard Police ticket year round for distracted driving violations with extra enforcements on the road throughout April, cracking down on illegal cell phone use, in honor of Distracted Driving Awareness Month. As the month comes to an end, drivers are reminded to never use their cell phones while driving, no matter what day of the year it is.
