Services for Seniors Event - Oct. 6

The Village of Lombard will host a Services for Seniors event focused on offering seniors access to on-site services. The event will take place on Wednesday, October 6, 2021, from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm. at the Madison Meadow Athletic Center, 500 E. Wilson Avenue.

Local agencies will be present to provide basic health services for seniors on-site, which will include:

  • Blood pressure screenings
  • Flu shots
  • Chair massages and posture screenings
  • Hearing screenings
  • COVID-19 vaccines
  • Balance screenings
  • DMV services

Unlike past Senior Fair events, this year's Services for Seniors Event will be reduced in scale and limited solely to a selection of available on-site services. Commercial and civic organization vendors will not be present in person on-site, although their literature, contact information, and giveaways will be aggregated and made available to attendees collectively. Light refreshments will be available. Learn More.

Fire Prevention Week and Fire Department Open House

The Lombard Fire Department is inviting residents to attend a community open house at Fire Station 45, located at 50 E. St. Charles Rd., on Wednesday, October 6, 6-8 p.m., in conjunction with National Fire Prevention Week, October 3-9, 2021.

The fun and free open house will include demonstrations and the opportunity to meet your Lombard Firefighters and Paramedics. Everyone in attendance will get a closer look at Fire and EMS vehicles, the apparatus involved in firefighting and emergency responses. This year’s Fire Prevention Week theme, “Learn the Sounds of Fire Safety” works to educate everyone about simple but important actions they can take to keep themselves and those around them safe.

Attendees who have purchased a pink shirt are invited to wear their shirts for a group photo with the Fire Department at 7 p.m. in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month. See below for details on purchasing a t-shirt.

West Nile Virus: High Risk

The Health Department’s Personal Protection Index (PPI) remains at Level 3 (high risk) because of the number of mosquito batches testing positive for WNV. Level 3 indicates high numbers of infected mosquitoes in most areas, and multiple human cases of WNV disease in DuPage County. View the PPI.

donate blood

Blood Shortage - Donate Today!

Blood donations centers are reporting a shortage of blood donors and depleting supply - some calling it the worst in years. The Red Cross is reporting less than one day supply of certain blood types. If you are eligible and able to do so, please consider donating blood! A single blood donation can help save more than one life—a teen who was in an accident, a grandfather in need of heart surgery, a friend being treated for cancer or a child with sickle cell disease. Visit redcrossblood.org or versiti.org to find a blood drive near you. The next Village-sponsored blood drive is scheduled for Wednesday, November 10 from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Yorktown Shopping Center.

Recycle Often, Recycle Right

The Village reminds residents to be careful about what you are putting in your recycling cart. Remember to keep food and liquid out of your recycling, no loose bags and no bagged recyclables in your cart. One contaminated item can cause your entire bin to be sent to the landfill.

Check out our handy recycling guide for tips on how to reuse or recycle everything from electronics to scrap metal.
