Lombard Pavement Assessments

Residents may see a vehicle like the one pictured traveling on roadways between November 15 and November 30, 2021.  The Village of Lombard has partnered with the Chicago Metropolitan Agency for Planning (CMAP) to conduct pavement assessments of roadways in Lombard as part of the Village’s Pavement Management Program.

The data collection process uses vans that will drive each roadway and record pavement conditions using lasers. The lasers can measure the change in road surface within two-thousandth of an inch, or roughly 1/2 the thickness of a piece of paper in a single pass to identify cracking, rutting, texture, potholes, raveling, and roughness.

Public Works Engineering staff will use the collected data to manage street maintenance in the most cost-effective and efficient manner.  A combination of preventative maintenance techniques from crack sealing and patching, to asphalt resurfacing when a road surface has reached the end of its service life, can be used to ensure smooth, safe, and economical pavements across a roadway network.

This Thanksgiving, Buckle Up and Designate a Sober Driver

Whether you're driving across town, or down the street, wear your seat belt and make a plan for a sober ride home.

Keep the Wreath Red This Holiday Season

The Lombard Fire Department is participating in the "Keep the Wreath Red Program" once again. This holiday fire safety program serves as a visual reminder for residents to take additional safety measures as they decorate for the holidays.

On Thanksgiving Day, Lombard firefighters will display wreaths with all red bulbs outside of each fire station. If a fire occurs in our community that is attributed to holiday decorations, firefighters will replace a red bulb with a white bulb. This display will continue through January 1, 2021. Our community’s goal is to keep both wreaths red!
