Help Save a Life, Donate Blood at Lombard’s Spring Blood Drive on April 18

The Village of Lombard is hosting a Spring Blood Drive on Tuesday, April 18, 2023, and is inviting residents to donate blood to help save lives. 

The blood drive will begin at the lower level of Yorktown outside of Von Maur from 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. and continue at the First Church of Lombard Fellowship Hall, 220 S. Main Street, from 1:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. As a form of appreciation, all donors will be entered into a drawing for a chance to win an electric bike.

Public Works Updates on Upcoming Construction Projects 

Downtown Sidewalk Improvement Project

Beginning the week of April 17, the Village of Lombard, in partnership with Thomas Engineering, will begin work on the Downtown Sidewalk Improvements Project along St. Charles Road between Craig Place and Elizabeth Street. The project will replace the existing brick pavers with concrete sidewalks and include a trim of decorative brick pavers between the tree vaults and curb. The design will maintain the historic look and feel of downtown while also helping to meet ADA accessibility requirements.

• Phase 1 (April 17 - June 15): North side of St. Charles Rd. from Elizabeth St. to Main St.
• Phase 2 (June 16 - August 27):  St. Charles Rd. from Main St. to Craig Place
• Phase 3 (August 28- October 29):   South side of St. Charles Rd. from Elizabeth St. to Main St.

N. Grace Street Utility Improvements Project

The North Grace Street Utility Improvements project will be underway from April 17th through October 2023. During the project, Grace Street between Prairie Avenue and Sunset Avenue will be restricted to southbound traffic only. Northbound traffic will be detoured accordingly.

Residential HomeBox Program for Residents 

When the Lombard Fire Department arrives at the home of a senior in need of medical assistance, precious time is often lost trying to get inside the home to help. The Lombard Fire Department wants residents, especially seniors or those with limited mobility, to know about the Knox HomeBox™ program.

The Knox HomeBox™ program provides a secure way for firefighters to access a key and enter a home when called to provide emergency assistance. A master key is stored in mounted boxes on fire engines and ambulances that require a PIN code to release, and only Lombard Fire Department personnel have access. Using a Knox HomeBox™ not only saves responders valuable time in providing medical care, but it also saves costly property repairs if emergency responders must force their way into the home. 

Distracted Driving Awareness Month

April is Distracted Driving Awareness Month, and the Lombard Police Department is stepping up its enforcement efforts to promote safe driving habits and reduce the number of distracted driving incidents on the roads. 

Last Chance to Sign Up for Public Works' Citizens Academy

The Lombard Public Works Department is offering its 5th annual Public Works Citizens Academy, which offers residents an opportunity to learn more about the operations and services provided by the Department. Residents interested in the program are invited to sign up on the Village website by April 12th, as class size is limited.  

The free academy is open to residents 18 and older and offers hands-on training activities, tours of Village facilities, and presentations by Public Works staff. Lombard’s PWCA will be held on Monday evenings, from 6 to 8:30 p.m., April 17 through May 8, with a graduation event scheduled on Thursday, May 18, in conjunction with a regularly scheduled Village Board of Trustees Meeting.
