Lilac Time 2023 Begins

Lilac Time (May 6 - May 21) is almost here, and there are many special events for everyone to enjoy. This Saturday, May 6th, join the Lombard Junior Women's Club in Lilacia Park at 1 p.m. for the Lilac Queen Coronation. Followed by a concert with The Beatelles, hosted by Lombard Park District, from 3 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. in Lilacia Park.

The Lilac Time Art & Craft Fair in Downtown Lombard, hosted by the Lombard Chamber of Commerce, will be held on Sunday, May 7th from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Note: West St. Charles Rd will be closed between Main St and Elizabeth Ave from 5 a.m. to 6 p.m. for the fair. A detour to Elizabeth St, Grove St, and Main St will be in place.

Distracted Driving Enforcement Results

The Lombard Police Department recently conducted a distracted driving enforcement campaign aimed at reducing the number of accidents caused by drivers using mobile devices. During the campaign, the department issued 135 violations for violating the hands-free cellphone law.

In addition to cellphone violations, the Lombard Police Department issued citations for various other traffic offenses, including the following:

57 Speeding Citations
28 Seatbelt Citations
6 Child Seat Safety Citations
40 Other Citations (Moving/Non-Moving)
10 Arrests

Sidewalk Cutting and Slicing Program

During the month of May, designated areas in the Village will undergo sidewalk cutting and slicing work to eliminate trip hazards and ensure ADA compliance for all residents. This will be carried out by the Village's contractor Hard Rock Concrete Cutters, Inc.

The impact of the work should be minimal, as the affected sidewalk will only be inaccessible while the work is being carried out in that specific area. Residents will have full access to their driveways during the process.

Property Tax Information

As a reminder, property tax bills for DuPage County property owners are in the mail this week. Please note that the Village of Lombard receives less than 8% of the total tax bill, meaning that less than $0.08 of every dollar paid in property taxes will go to the Village to help fund core services, including public safety provided by Police and Fire Departments; road, sewer, and water maintenance from Public Works; building and code enforcement from Community Development, and responsible long-term financial planning from the Finance Department.

Village Provides Update on 2021-2024 Strategic Plan

On April 13th, the Village of Lombard held a special Board of Trustees Meeting where Village staff provided a detailed and comprehensive update on the progress of the 2021-2024 Strategic Plan.

Village staff presented a detailed overview, including a thorough analysis of each strategic priority, outlining key achievements and challenges. Staff also provided a comprehensive analysis of the data and metrics used to track progress towards the identified objectives, highlighting areas of success and those requiring additional work.

Participate in the Village's “Hidden Gems of Lombard” Photo Contest

The Village of Lombard is hosting its annual photo contest during Lilac Time with this year’s theme, “Hidden Gems of Lombard.” The contest will run from May 5 through May 28, 2023, and is open to Lombard residents and visitors.

All photographers, whether amateur or experienced, are encouraged to submit their photos capturing the beauty of Lombard's hidden gems - the special places that make Lombard a unique and wonderful place to live, work and visit. Whether it's a hidden park, a unique business, or a local landmark, we want to see the hidden gems that make Lombard shine.
