Lilac Parade Returns to Lombard this Sunday, May 21st!

The 2023 Lilac Parade will return to Lombard this Sunday, May 21, 2023. The parade will begin at Glenbard East High School, 1014 S. Main St, and head north towards Maple St. at 1:30 p.m. In order to help ensure a safe and orderly event, Lombard Police Chief Tom Wirsing announced temporary parking restrictions and a road closure during the Parade.

Parking restrictions will be implemented in the area, beginning at 9:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, May 21. Refer to the 2023 Lilac Parade Parking Restrictions map for details. When possible, Lombard residents are encouraged to leave their cars at home and walk to the Parade.

Support Special Olympics at Cop on a Rooftop Event this Friday!

This Friday, May 19th, Lombard police officers will be staking out Dunkin’ rooftops in Lombard from 5 a.m. - noon to raise awareness and donations for the Law Enforcement Torch Run (LETR), which supports Special Olympics Illinois. Enjoy a delicious cup of coffee while showing your support for these amazing athletes!

All guests who donate to the Torch Run will receive a coupon for a free donut. Guests who donate $10 or more will receive a LETR/ Dunkin’ branded travel mug (while supplies last) and a coupon for a free medium hot coffee. Lombard officers will also have Torch Run merchandise for sale with proceeds benefiting Special Olympics Illinois.

Lombard Police Join Illinois "Click It or Ticket" Campaign to Save Lives

The Lombard Police announced it is stepping up enforcement for the Memorial Day “Click It or Ticket” campaign that will run May 19-30 and reminds motorists to buckle up for safety. The “Click It or Ticket” campaign focuses on safety education and law enforcement to save lives.

“Seat belts have proven to be life-saving in the event of a crash,” said Administrative/Traffic Sergeant Tom Balsitis. “Unfortunately, many still don’t buckle up. Worse yet, not wearing a seat belt is a habit that can be passed on to younger generations who follow the example set by their elders.”

National Police Week: May 14 - 20

Communities across the United States recognize National Police Week to honor and remember those law enforcement officers who made the ultimate sacrifice, as well as the family members, friends and fellow officers they left behind. Lombard Officers who were killed in the line of duty include John Frost, killed Sept. 1936; Louis Schuetz, killed July 30, 1933; and Allan Mollsen, killed Sept. 28, 1986.

Save the Date: Village will Host Memorial Day Ceremony on May 29th

The Village of Lombard will hold its annual Memorial Day Ceremony on Monday, May 29, 2023, at 10 a.m. at the Sunken Garden in Common Park (just east of the Grace St. and Maple St. intersection). All community members are invited to help honor the men and women who served in our country’s military as well as those who gave their lives for our freedoms.

Attendees and nearby residents are reminded that the ceremony will include a cannon fire and a controlled gun salute. Please be advised that these commemorative activities may produce loud noises.

Members of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Lilac Post #5815, American Legion Lombard Post #391, Lombard Park District, Lombard Historical Society, Stanford’s Battery Civil War Cannon, Glenbard East High School, Shamrock Garden Florist, Ltd., Brust Funeral Home, local scouts, and residents will be participating in the ceremony.

The Village of Lombard is hosting its annual photo contest during Lilac Time with this year’s theme, “Hidden Gems of Lombard.” The contest will run from May 5 through May 28, 2023, and is open to Lombard residents and visitors.

All photographers, whether amateur or experienced, are encouraged to submit their photos capturing the beauty of Lombard's hidden gems - the special places that make Lombard a unique and wonderful place to live, work and visit. Whether it's a hidden park, a unique business, or a local landmark, we want to see the hidden gems that make Lombard shine.
