June 15 project update
Phase 1 Completed
The Village has successfully completed Phase 1 of the Downtown Lombard Sidewalk Improvement Project on time and on budget. However, due to supply chain issues, the grates for the tree vaults will be delayed until mid-July. In the meantime, the Village will install plywood planks to ensure the tree vaults are safe. Phase 1 of the project included the area on the north side of St. Charles Road between Main Street and Elizabeth Street.
Phase 2 of the project will include St. Charles Road between Main Street and Craig Street. The contractor has begun the removal of existing pavement and sidewalks and is expected to be completed by the end of August. The 3rd and final phase of the project, which consists of the south side of St. Charles Road between Main Street and Elizabeth Street, will begin once the Lombard Cruise Nights event series has concluded for the year.
Once construction activity is complete, the Village will install new site furnishings, planters and bicycle parking to complete the transformation of the corridor.
The Village would like to thank the property owners, merchants, residents and visitors for their patience and cooperation during the construction. The downtown plays an important part in Lombard’s past and future. These improvements, along with future improvements in the downtown, are intended to create a more cohesive and vibrant place for work, leisure and shopping.
