Lombard Cycling Returns to Downtown Lombard on July 25


In less than a week, the Lombard Cycling Classic will return to downtown Lombard on Tuesday, July 25. St. Charles Rd. will be closed from Elizabeth to Main from 5 am to 10 pm, with detours in place. 


Detour Routes

Vehicles will not be able to access the race route after detours are put in place at 5:00 a.m., and commuters are reminded to plan ahead for traffic delays. Please note: 

  • St. Charles Road will be CLOSED from Elizabeth through Main Street, including the intersection of Main Street and St. Charles Road.
  • The underpass at Main Street and the track crossing at Elizabeth Street will be CLOSED. Vehicles must use the crossings at either Crescent Boulevard or Grace Street to cross the tracks.
  • East and westbound St. Charles Road traffic will be detoured north to Grove Street.
  • North and southbound Main Street traffic will be detoured east to Grace Street.

The last race ends at 8:15 p.m., and road closures will be in place until 10:00 p.m. when the race route has been cleared by public safety personnel.


Kids & Family Community Ride 

Families are welcome to bike the race course in the Kids & Family Community Ride at 6:15 p.m. To participate, register your family at www.bikereg.com/intelligentsia-cup-lombard-fun-ride. After completion of the first registrant, the system will allow you to add additional registrants. Once completed, you will receive a QR code that must be presented at check-in before the event. 


Participants are required to bring their own bicycles, wear helmets, and meet at the registration tent no later than 5:30 p.m. to check in before the 6:15 p.m. start.

Cruise Nights & Summer Concerts Saturday, July 22nd


Join us in downtown Lombard this Saturday, July 22nd, for Cruise Nights and Summer Concerts from 6-10 p.m.! Enjoy live music from Generation Rocks and fun for the whole family!


Kids are invited to stop by Kids' Corner, sponsored by Kelly Stetler Real Estate | Compass, for a Warhol-themed night with the Lombard Historical Society. Stop by from 6 pm to 8 pm to have some fun and enjoy Warhol giveaways!


At this time, there is a chance of storms on Saturday. While light rain will not cause cancellation, severe weather or unsafe conditions may lead to the cancellation of the event. The Village will continue to monitor the weather forecast. Updates and weather-related delays or cancellations will be shared on the Village Facebook , Twitter and Instagram pages.

Lombard Police Department Ranks 3rd in State DUI Arrests


The Lombard Police Department remains committed to keeping residents and motorists safe by showing a zero-tolerance policy when it comes to intoxicated driving. According to recent data compiled by the Alliance Against Intoxicated Motorists (AAIM), Lombard Police made 287 driving under the influence (DUI) arrests in 2022, leading the Department to rank 3rd in Illinois. 


While the Lombard Police Department recorded a slight decrease of four percent in DUI arrests compared to the previous year's 300 arrests, the Department remains steadfast in its commitment to community safety.

A Pop of Generosity: Donate to the Warhol-inspired Canned Food Drive 


The Village of Lombard, in collaboration with the Lombard Park District, Helen Plum Library and Lombard Historical Society, is pleased to announce a canned food drive with a Warhol-inspired twist to benefit the Outreach House Food Pantry in Lombard. View a comprehensive list of the most needed donation items on the Outreach House website.


These specially designed collection cans featuring a Lombard Campbell Soup label will be available at multiple locations across Lombard through September 10, 2023, offering residents and visitors a convenient way to contribute to this cause. 


Participating locations include:

  • Fire Station 45 - 50 E St. Charles Rd 
  • Lombard Historical Society - 23 W Maple St 
  • Sunset Knoll Recreation Center - 820 Finley Rd

Parkside Avenue will be closed for the Lombard Brew Fest on July 22

 

A road closure will be in place on Saturday, July 22nd, from 5 a.m. to 8 p.m. in Downtown Lombard for the Lombard Brew Fest event hosted by the Lombard Junior Women's Club. 


Parkside Avenue will be CLOSED from Elizabeth Street to S Park Avenue. 


Motorists traveling in and around Downtown Lombard are encouraged to plan ahead and be aware of increased vehicle and pedestrian traffic associated with the event.

Village Seeks Volunteers to Fill Current Committee Vacancies


The Village is actively seeking applications from qualified candidates who are passionate about serving their community to fill ten current vacancies on Lombard's volunteer boards, committees, and commissions. 


The Village encourages residents who are interested in serving their community and who possess experience related to the committee vacancies to apply. 


Applications will be accepted on a rolling basis, with committee chairs reviewing the first round of applications by July 24th. Throughout August and September, committee chairs will review applications and interview selected applicants. Appointments are anticipated to take place in September.

Asphalt Resurfacing Program Begins 


The Village's contractor, Brothers Asphalt Paving, will begin work on July 21st. The binder level will be placed first along with adjustments to manhole frames, and the surface layer will then be placed within the following week or so. In particular, this work will include Maple between Main and Grace. Flaggers will assist drivers through the construction zone. The Village's in-house crew will also resurface additional local roads in the near future.
